The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is a professional accounting body established in 1965 with the primary aim of regulating the practice of accountancy and certifying accountants in the country.
To start your journey towards becoming a chartered accountant, you need to pass either of ICAN Professional Examinations or ATSWA Examinations.
- The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) professional examinations consist of 3 stages, with each stages offering 5 Subjects before moving to the next stage. They are:
- Foundation Level
- Skill Level
- Professional Level
- The Accounting Technicians Scheme for West Africa (ATSWA) examinations, offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), This also consists of three stages and they are:
- ATSWA Part I
- ATSWA Part II
- ATSWA Part III
While these examinations cover fundamental accounting concepts, principles and ethics of Accounting as a profession, a candidate may decide to sit for just one paper at a time for sake of flexibility but not exceeding 10 Diets & 6 diets for ICAN Professional Exams and ATSWA Exams respectively, otherwise, all prior paper passed will be cancelled.
